Sunset Gradient Palettes

Sunset gradients move from warm to warmer: a red or orange opening into yellow, with nothing cool in between. That simple rule produces a remarkable range, from a soft peach fade that feels like early evening to a saturated coral and gold ramp that feels like the last minute of light.

They are the most emotionally direct ramps in the library, which is why they carry campaigns, album art and hero sections so often, and also why they can overwhelm a page that needs to stay quiet. Each gradient below is listed with its stops and the CSS that reproduces it exactly, and each links to a page with its angle, values and the palettes whose colors also appear in it.

These are the warmest ramps in the library and the ones that read as a time of day rather than as a color decision. Their weakness is legibility: nearly every stop is light, so dark type is the only comfortable option and light type will disappear. Where a sunset gradient carries a heading, the darkest stop should be placed behind the text, and the angle reversed if that stop is currently at the far end.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a gradient read as a sunset?
Warm stops only: red or orange into yellow or gold, with no blue or green anywhere in the ramp.
Which text color works on a sunset gradient?
A deep brown or near-black, since nearly every stop in the ramp is light.
Can a sunset gradient be made calmer?
Yes, by narrowing the ramp: two close warm tones read as a soft haze rather than a dramatic sky.
